The 2023 Kyoto Prize Commemorative Lectures were held at the Kyoto International Conference Center on November 11, 2023, with 550 participants.

The speakers were Dr. Elliott H. Lieb (mathematician and physicist), the laureate in Basic Sciences and Ms. Nalini Malani (artist) in Arts and Philosophy. Furthermore, as an alternative program to the lecture by Dr. Ryuzo Yanagimachi (reproductive biologist), in Advanced Technology, who passed away in September, Dr. Hidenori Akutsu (Director, Center for Regenerative Medicine, Research Institute, National Center for Child Health and Development) and Dr. Atsuro Ogura (Deputy Center Director, BioResource Research Center, RIKEN), who are closely related to Dr. Yanagimachi looked back on his personality and achievements.

After each lecture, navigator Miki Sumiyoshi (former NHK announcer/freelancer) asked the speakers about the content of their lectures and their views on life from the audience’s perspective. The participants were drawn into the fascinating stories.
